Scams when trying to schedule Save Time

When trying to schedule the Poupa Tempo to renew the driver's license or for another matter, there are scamming websites that jump ahead, “facilitating” the scheduling. They have whatsApp or chat, or they just work as an online store where you read information, enter document data and, in the end, request a payment. The citizen pays, usually by PIX. You can fall for a scam here.

Stay alert: These bodies do not charge anything in advance and do not (as a rule) have payment via PIX. Carefully check whether the site that is "facilitating" is a legal service provider or is a scammer. When in doubt, look for another means of scheduling.

Fake Consortium Scam:

The false consortiums deceive the dream of the person who seeks to acquire his own house, commercial point, vehicle or other movable property. They create attractive and convincing websites. Its attendants are employees very well trained to deceive customers. They have managerial support to provide credibility and “support”. They usually make miraculous promises, such as a draw in the third month or at most up to the sixth payment. The consortium only finds out after making several payments and, even after the deadline guaranteed in the false promise of the draw, a new relationship is established to make the victim continue paying.

Stay alert: When deciding to invest, initially check how long the company has been on the market or how long the site has been on air. (use this tool: https://www.siteconfiavel.com.br). Second, look on Reclame Aqui for the status of that company's concept. You can improve your security by checking the conditions of the desired consortium at the bank where you have a checking or savings account.

Fake Auction Scams:

If you haven't fallen for the online auction scam, it's because you haven't tried to bid, or you've been lucky, or you must be a very attentive guy. It is impressive the amount of fake auctioneers, appearing in Google's sponsored links or in the organic system. When someone thinks about buying a car or other good at an auction, he has a very high possibility of paying the bid and never receiving anything. It is estimated that out of every 10 auctioneer sites, 7 or more are traps. And why do the country's authorities allow these crooks to continue? Recently a syndicate tried, but Google refused to delete the presented scam sites.

Stay alert: First of all, in the case of a vehicle auction, check the cars featured on the site. If you see that it looks more like a vehicle shop, all beautiful, then don't even risk it. Second, make sure the Authorized Auctioneer's name appears on the site, then take their name and do a search to see what their official site is. If it does not have the authorized name, it must not be an official website. Third, real auction sites always end in “com.br”. Many fake websites usually have real website names, but their websites are terminated by “.com”, “.org” and some fake websites still try to deceive the consumer by putting “.com (br)”

False Loan Scam:

In this type of scam, fraudulent companies create attractive websites, appear in good positions in the search engine. They may appear with the name of a well-known financial institution, such as Banco do Brasil.

In this and other scams, consumers provide their documentary data and even selfies, showing their face and document.

Fraudsters contact the victim, preferably using whatsApp, and request an initial deposit into the swindlers' account for approval of the loan amount, usually claiming to be a release fee. After that first deposit, several more will be requested and the situation will extend to the maximum value that the criminals can extract from the victim.

Watch out: If you cannot carefully verify the financial institution from which you are going to apply for financing, when you receive information to deposit a release fee, abort the operation. You may already be harmed by the fact that you provided your details to crooks, but making a payment will only make your situation worse.

WhatsApp scam

With the popularization of WhatsApp, this agile means of communication has become a great field of crime for scammers. Account theft and fake profile creation are some of the most well-known methods. These scams come in many forms, such as the scammer pretending to be a son, father, mother or brother, and informing that he changed the number for some good reason and asking to register the new one. Almost always a few minutes later, it requests a transfer for an urgent situation.

Scammers can clone your cell phone. They send a link via SMS, requesting confirmation with the application's security code. By adding this code, your number is automatically cloned and scammers will have access to your contacts.

It can also happen that your profile picture is copied. Thus, they impersonate you and request bank transfers, PIX or deposits from your added contacts, choosing people with greater affinity.

Stay Alert: Do not add code received by SMS without knowing what it is or impulsively. Do not make a transfer without first calmly analyzing whether the person asking is a relative or a friend. Contact the number you always talked to to check whether or not it is a scam.

Cellphone Stealing Scam

Thefts happen a lot on public roads, while people are using their cell phones or when they are connected to direction indicator apps.

Walking through the streets talking on whatsAPP is very risky. Given the distraction caused by concentrating on the conversation, theft becomes easy. Inside buses, in big cities, people using their cell phones, sitting next to the window, lose their device in the action of bandits who, from the outside, jump and snatch the cell phone from the user's hand.

In this way, criminals have access to the already unlocked device and, from there, search for passwords eventually stored by users themselves in applications and websites that they usually use, or try to identify them by searching photos and personal data, such as dates of birthdays. Armed with this information, the robbers try to enter the bank's application.

Stay alert: If you have to walk and talk on your cell phone at the same time, don't be completely distracted. Driving a vehicle with the cell phone in GPS mode, keep the vehicle windows closed. Be careful when you're on public transport so you don't lose your cell phone in the action of bandits specialized in jumping and snatching the cell phone from the hands of those inside the bus. Remember that the biggest risk is data breach and access to the banking application.

False Call Center Scam

It is common for us to receive calls from the call centers of commercial companies that we are customers or that we have made purchases in the past, and from banks that we have an account with or that we have had in the past. In this type of scam, the fraudster contacts the victim as if the call originated directly from the commercial company or financial institution. The scammer informs the victim that his or her registration or account has been hacked, or an attempt has been made to violate it, and requests confirmation of personal data.

After providing false alert information, the victim is asked to call the call center number found on the back of the card. However, the scammer will remain on the line, waiting while the victim hangs up and calls the new number and then restarts the conversation, informing that he is talking to the store or bank service.

So they request passwords for their cards, and now have access to their registration data and the card itself, being able to make purchases and even clone their credit cards.

Stay Alert: Never give your password to anyone. Be wary of calls that report that your data is having problems in commercial stores or financial institutions.

Motoboy shipping scam

The victim receives a call from the scammer who identifies himself as an employee of the institution in which the person has a card, and informs that his card has been cloned or violated.

So the scammer instructs the victim to deliver the card to the motoboy, who will go to his address. An interesting observation here is that even if the victim cuts the card before delivering it, he will not be able to take precautions, because if the chips are not damaged, the scammer will be able to use it and make online purchases on behalf of the victim.

Stay Alert: Banks advise customers to destroy a canceled or blocked card. There is no card withdrawal service. Strange information has appeared, call your bank's customer service.

Used product sale scam

This scam uses a cybercriminal technique, in this case phishing. It invades a person's social network profile, such as Instagram, and starts posting in stories and/or feed, selling attractive products at a low price. In this scam, criminals observe the characteristics of how the profile owner writes, and seek to imitate him. Cybercriminals apply this scam, usually informing in advertisements that they are moving and need to dispose of these goods, and ask for a pix as an advance for the reservation of goods, but as soon as payment is made, contact with the victim is blocked.

Stay alert: In order not to fall for this scam, contact the person who owns the profile through other means of communication, confirming that they really made that ad . Also, always check the name of the account that is in the Pix key entered before confirming the payment.

Discount scam if you pay with Pix

Scammers send text messages in which they propose special discounts on cell phone bills, cable TV, credit card, among many others, and inform even greater discount if made by PIX, and already send the code in the text message QR Code to make the payment.

There are many types of this scam, but they are similar in the advantage offered, including discounts that can reach 40%.

Stay alert: Who gets a big discount when paying the card bill at your bank? Be wary of proposals that offer a super discount on the payment of invoices that you never had a reduction.

Card Swap Scam

Another scam that happens is the card exchange, and it is carried out in a physical way.It can happen when you pay for a purchase at commercial establishments, whether small or large chains.

By swiping the card, the scammer pays attention when the victim is typing the password into the machine. Then, while waiting for the transaction to be approved, the card is replaced, and the victim doesn't even realize they've received a fake card.

The scammer keeps your card and the password he memorized, and can then make purchases on your behalf.

Stay alert: Do not allow this action to be observed when entering the password. If you notice that someone is watching you, cover the keyboard with your other hand. Check the card upon receipt. Choose to manipulate the card yourself when you have the function to pay by approximation.

Card Not Present Scam

When we shop online, we provide information on the billing address, our CPF, card number, expiration date and security code.

This data can be easily hacked.

Stay alert: Try to have the Online Card in your banking application. With this card, even passing all the information, the security code changes with each transaction. Even if the information entered is hacked, the fraudulent purchase is unlikely to be finalized.

Lost Card Scam

Cards sent by the bank are frequently lost. The client requests, but does not receive. When thugs get a physical card in the victim's name, they will use it to try a coup. It may even occur that the envelope is stolen from your mailbox. In possession of the card, the criminal contacts the victim and requests the password, claiming that, with this information, the process of requesting and sending the new card will be faster.

Stay Alert: Never, ever tell anyone your password, not even your bank manager.

Fake Online Store Scam

Fake online stores spread across the internet at a speed and volume never seen before. Different stores, which offer everything you are looking for, and appear in paid Google searches in a prominent position. If you are going to buy tires for your vehicle, if you need a starter motor, or any part, household appliances, cell phones, tools, etc., just search and you will find such a low price that other stores don't have. You will pay, but you will never receive.

They also create profiles on social networks, such as Instagram. They post various publications, products for sale, and can even create fake profiles of people who praise the store. The victim makes the online purchase directly in the store, informs personal data and makes the transfer.

After transferring the money, the victim is blocked and will never receive the paid goods or service.

Stay alert: Prefer internet portals that have secure purchases with a money-back guarantee. Do not buy impulsively without first checking the security.

Coup of False Promotions

False promotion scams are very common. Scammers appear with fake profiles of large companies, informing that the victim has won a prize or a purchase voucher of significant value. Contact can be by phone, WhatsApp or social networks.

By clicking on the link sent, the victim is redirected to a false website, in which it will be necessary to inform personal data and, many times, even fill in checking account data to be able to receive the prize or the purchase voucher.< /p>

After entering the data, the victim is no longer able to access the company's profile and therefore does not see the status of the false promotion. And now you are vulnerable, as the scammer has your data and even your financial information.

Stay Alert: Be immediately suspicious of promotions and benefits offered for free. Check if the company really did the promotion offered.

Video Call Scam

WhatsAPP has video call function. Scammers create websites and links. When making a video call, information appears asking you to enter your cell phone number and verification code in a field that appears.

Innocent people believe that this is a request from WhatsApp itself. However, the scammer captures your data and uses it in fraud.

Another scam of video calling occurs when answering a call. The victim answers and has her face 'printed' by the scammer, who shows her private parts. She is threatened with releasing the image and demands money not to.

Stay alert: Do not answer video call from private number. If you see an imposition to enter data in fields to complete the video call, abort and use the voice call.

Phantom Hand Strike

In this scam, an account holder receives a call, and the attendant informs that it is from the bank and asks if the customer made a certain transaction. As this transaction was not carried out by the account holder, the scammer recommends installing a new application that, according to him, will offer more security.

This application is actually malware, and with it installed on the victim's device, the cybercriminal gains remote access, being able to manipulate data and financial information.

Stay Alert: If someone called saying they're from your bank's customer service, hang up. Then call customer service and ask about it. Do you have a bank app and someone is offering a link to install a new app? Don't install anything!
